The gift that keeps on giving

February 15, 2006

Al Gore told a Saudi Arabian seminar audience Saturday that GWB has been too hard on Saudi illegal immigrants.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "Oh, go on... even Al freaking Gore would know better than to say a thing like THAT..."

Oh, yes he did.

Here's the money quote, though how much of it hasn't been reported. Gore told the assemblage of invitees of, among other sponsors, the Saudi Binladen Group (yes, those Bin Ladens) that, since 9/11, Arabs had been:

"...indiscriminately rounded up, often on minor charges of overstaying a visa or not having a green card in proper order, and held in conditions that were just unforgivable."

You might think that, whatever his loyalties, or lack of them, toward the nation of his birth, Mr. Gore would at least get on the same page with his fellow trait... er, Democrats; You know, the ones who have spent so much effort, all the way back to Michael Moore's propaganda film F911 in 2004, to paint Bush as too in bed with our 'friends' the Saudis. But it seems that you'd be wrong. The wannabe TV mogul is now peddling the notion that Bush hasn't been in bed with them enough. He feels that we should pay no attention to Saudi nationals here without visas or green cards (translation: in breach of our immigration laws) and he's going over there on the dime of Osama Bin Laden's family, among others, to spread the word.

Let's put aside for just a moment where and at whose behest he's saying this, and consider the actual content of Al's charge. He feels that it is 'unforgiveable' for foreign nationals from the homeland of OBL and 15 out of 19 of our attackers on that fateful September morning, who are here illegally (a charge Gore considers 'minor'), to be rounded up 'indiscriminately'. One wonders what the proper show of discrimination in the rounding up of illegal aliens would entail, let alone ones from the home of more than three quarters of our attackers, in a post-9/11 world. No wonder he doesn't say that kind of stuff around here. But shouldn't a guy who aspires to run his own liberal propaganda network on cable realize, if he realizes nothing else, that we'd hear about it if he goes to Bin Laden's home, and on his family's dime, to say it?

One might expect that sort of nonsense from, say, an ignorant rioter burning down a Danish embassy, but the Dems ran this guy for president not too long ago. Even John Kerry and Hillary Clinton are politically savvy enough to at least make believe that they think our security matters. We know they're full of it, of course -- neither of them, or anyone else in their party has, as of yet, denounced their one-time veep for giving away the game like he did Saturday.

Here's hoping Gore can stay ahead of the guys with the white suits and butterfly nets until 11/06, at least. You just can't buy campaign commercial opportunities like that.
