How to become an amateur abortionist

Angry liberal says it's easier than you think

March 9, 2006

Remember when the pro-abortionites thought that back-alley abortions performed by non-medically-trained hacks were a bad thing? Well, it seems that that pose is out, now that South Dakota has passed legislation that restricts abortions in that state. Set your jaw and get a load of this. If the article and follow-on comments from readers is any indication, that was yet another liberal argument-of-convenience to be discarded when it was no longer needed.

Seriously, this is something you gotta see to believe, but you better bring a strong stomach with you, because brother, you're going to need it. Miss Molly actually attempts to convince all comers to go into business for themselves as (you just can't make this stuff up...) private illegal abortionists.

[Women] were deceived -- much like you have probably been deceived. An abortion, especially for an early pregnancy, is a relatively easy procedure to perform. And while I know, women of South Dakota, that you never asked for this, now is the time to learn how it is done. There is no reason you should be beholden to doctors -- especially in a state where doctors have been refusing to perform them, forcing the state's only abortion clinic to fly doctors in from elsewhere.

Aside from suggestions as to where to procure and how to sterilize the requisite medical instruments, how to fool doctors into prescribing antibiotic drugs under false pretenses (or, you can mail order them from Mexico, she helpfully suggests) the author also goes into gruesome detail as to how to actually perform abortions, for an intended audience of would-be baby killers who are willing to practice surgery without a medical degree.

Think it has to be satire? Apparently one brave commenter thought so, too, urging caution lest someone actually take her seriously and kill someone (accidentally, he meant; killing the baby was apparently ok, even with him.)

In her response she wrote:

...this is a procedure for an illegal abortion CLINIC, not an individual woman. This would require a capital outlay of about $1500-2000 -- more than enough for a single woman to get across state lines, abort, and return. However, this clinical setup would provide many abortions for many women.

Molly carefully gives a pro-forma disclaimer that anyone who actually follows her advice is on his or her own as regards the legal (and presumably the moral) liabilities, but there is no denying that her intention is to inspire a bunch of untrained abortionists to go into private practice. It is a non-trivial financial investment, $1500-2000 to set yourself up with the tools of the trade, as she says, but think of all the babies you can kill.

There is comic relief, however unintentional: For someone trying to convince anyone and everyone to become an abortionist, she actually says, at one point:

Ask your patient how long it has been since her last period. If it has been eight weeks or less, the procedure itself will take less than 15 minutes after dilation begins. The length grows, however, until at about 13-14 weeks (the limit for a D&C procedure because of the limited dilation ability of dilators) it will last up to 45 minutes. Honesty is IMPERATIVE, because dishonesty could endanger the woman's health.

Well, an untrained surgeon certainly wouldn't want to go endangering anyone's health... but she shows how deep this concern actually is when she says:

If you are careful and diligent, and have a good grasp of a woman's anatomy you will not put anyone's health or life in danger, even if you have not seen one of these procedures performed.

Nice.

Clip this one, and have it ready to show the next time someone tries to tell you that liberals are caring, compassionate, and intelligent people. In the mean time, make sure to ask any medical practitioner you may encounter what medical school he or she went to. Asking to see a diploma might not be a bad move, either. You never know what you're going to get in today's world. There's a lot of liberals out there, after all.
