Get the freaking word out

March 17, 2006

The release of the Iraqi document trove, so long successfully resisted by all who didn't want anyone to know what was really going on in pre-invasion Iraq, is already bearing the magnificent fruit we expected -- nothing less than the smoking gun of Saddam's links to Al Qaida. Yes, you read that right, although I'll bet you haven't heard about it in the MSM.

For the record:

Among the first batch of the thousands expected to be declassified over the next several months, the Al Mukabarat document was translated from the original Arabic by a contributor to the online forum Free Republic.

[...] The letter indicated Osama bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan were in contact with Iraq – noting a specific visit to Baghdad – and said the U.S. had proof Saddam's regime and al-Qaida were cooperating to hit a target in the U.S.

The document said the U.S. was aware of such a relationship and could strike Iraq and Afghanistan if the attacks proved to be tied to bin Laden and the Taliban.

The translated text is as follows:

In the Name of God the Merciful

Presidency of the Republic

Intelligence Apparatus

To the respectful Mr. M.A.M

Subject: Information

Our source in Afghanistan No 11002 (for information about him see attachment 1) provided us with information that that Afghani Consul Ahmad Dahestani (for information about him see attachment 2) told him the following:

1. That Osama bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan are in contact with Iraq and it that previously a group from Taliban and Osama Bin Laden group visited Iraq.

2. That America has proof that the government of Iraq and Osama bin Laden group have shown cooperation to hit target within America.

3. That in case it is proven the involvement of Osama bin Laden group and the Taliban in these destructive operations it is possible that American will conduct strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

4. That the Afghani Consul heard about the subject of Iraq relation with Osama Bin Laden group during his stay in Iran.

5. In light of this we suggest to write to the Commission of the above information.

OK. So this proves once and for all, and beyond any shadow of doubt, that the screaming by everyone on the left, media as well as party hacks, all of them, about how Saddam had not had anything to do with 9/11, were wrong. Yes, it is absolute, conclusive proof. Case closed on that. Which is by no means to say that there will not be further stunning revelations from the public examination of the documents that were released, or, for that matter, further proof on this particular point; just that this is a biggie, a nuke, as it were, on all who said we had no reason to go after Saddam.

So: what to do? The press, having peddled that particular lie to such good effect all these years, will do everything in its power to make sure that nobody hears about it. Oh, sure, it will likely sweep through the blogosphere like the dynamite that it is. But that isn't enough. Not for smoking gun news like this. Word has to be gotten to everyone, everywhere.

It calls for nothing less than a Presidential address, in prime time. We simply cannot let the conventional 'wisdom' continue to be that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11 or Al Qaida. It isn't true, and the all-out assult of 3 years of lies deserves the equally all-out assault of going over the head of the media to get the truth out. Scream for a Presidential address, folks. We can't let this news be waited out and forgotten. Get the word out.
